Church History
New Covenant Church was founded as New Covenant Baptist Church on September 29, 1996. The Reverend Larry T. Williams became the founder and organizing Pastor of the church. The church had a small but strong core group committed to the vision and its purpose. The church was established with a strong biblical foundation. This has led to the church’s sustainment, growth,
and development.
Over the past 24 years, Bishop Larry Williams and the leadership staff have been successful in building a high commitment level among the membership. The church has served as a place of spiritual equipping, empowering, edifying, and educating.
Members have experienced spiritual development through many aspects of their life.
For years the New Covenant Church has emphasized the love of Christ through prayer, evangelism, through street ministry, spiritual education, through discipleship classes, and preaching the word of God. The church has been an exciting place of people helping people and we have seen the work of God in numerous instances.
In August 2017 our physical church building received extensive damages from the historical and devastating Hurricane Harvey. The church was located in the Kashmere Gardens neighborhood. Kashmere Gardens lies just beside Huntington Bayou and was
one of the first areas to flood during Hurricane Harvey. Huntington Bayou borders all sides of the community, creating an island effect; therefore a staggering 79 percent of all homes in Kashmere Gardens flooded during Hurricane Harvey. The church sustained 14 inches of floodwaters through the entire building, causing severe damage to our place of worship. Due to the infrastructure challenges, and the bayou just being several yards away from the church building, this fundamentally flawed, flood-prone land area was susceptible to being inundated by floodwaters again. The church had
some serious decisions to make; therefore, we labored in prayer to seek God’s direction and leading. The capital campaign project escalated as the church felt the leading of God to relocate farther north in the city of Houston. The church purchased the property and a modular building for temporary worship and meeting use as we have entered into the planning and fundraising phase of a new worship facility.
New Covenant Church has always been a place of worship for all people. We make it easy for people to get connected and get involved. We welcome all ages, backgrounds, and experiences. We create an atmosphere of love, kindness, acceptance, and truth.
We are a unified body of baptized believers in Christ who express our love for one another across ethnic, socioeconomic, generational, and denominational lines. We are a congregation of believers who gather for worship, prayer, instruction, encouragement, mutual accountability, and community with each other. We invest time, energy and resources to fulfill the Great Commission… recycling lost people and growing them into fully devoted followers of Christ. It is our hope that here at New Covenant Church, you discover a place to belong, believe, and become.
